The animated wind-gust forecast comes from Environment and Climate Change Canada's (ECCC) Regional Deterministic Prediction System (RDPS, 10 km), with the Global system (GDPS) as a fallback. Gusts are the 10-metre maximum wind gusts that drive storm and wind damage.

The model runs several times a day and forecasts hourly out to roughly 84 hours (about 3.5 days).

Environment Canada issues a wind advisory around 70 km/h gusts and a wind warning around 90 km/h. Gusts above ~90 km/h can lift loose shingles, damage fences and branches; above ~110 km/h damage becomes widespread.
